1. In your own words, describe the structure and function of the gastrointestinal tube?

The GI tract runs from the mouth all the way to the anus and is responsible for the breakdown of foods into nutrients are bodies need and then gets rid of waste products (Anatomy and Physiology, 2013, Chapter 23)

2. In your own words, describe the anatomy and physiology of the stomach’s mucosa. Include the various cells and their appropriate secretions?

The stomachs mucosa is a membrane that lines the stomach and this is where the glands are that secrete acids and enzymes to breakdown the intake of food and liquids (Anatomy and Physiology, 2013, p. 724). The different type of cells and their secretions include surface Mucous Cells: Secretes mucus, neck mucous Cells: secretes mucus with a neutral base, chief Cells: secretes pepsinogen, parietal Cells: secretes hydrochloric acid and intrinsic factor, G Cells: secretes gastrin (Anatomy and Physiology, 2013, p. 1031).

3. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the small intestine? Why is surface area is important with the small intestine and how does it increase the surface?

The small intestine is part of the digestive system between the stomach and the large intestine and this is where most of the digestion occurs and where your body takes in nutrients from your food and liquids (Anatomy and Physiology, 2013, p. 1023).
