“What is the purpose and place of the Pledge of Allegiance to the US flag?”

The Pledge was first published September 8, 1892. The pledge was made to make a stronger citizenship. President Harrison urged Congress to make a proclamation which focused on the flag of America. The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag has been written and revised a few times. The intent of the Pledge of Allegiance is to make the American people stronger, to unite them as people, and their allegiance to America. A feeling arose in Congress and throughout parts of the nation that by acknowledging “God” as our national symbol, America would be protected from the Communist menace.

Scoring a religious Trifecta of sorts, the Pledge was amended in 1954 to include the words “under God”. Since 1954, the now religious Pledge has read: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” In an attempt to mitigate the effects of this controversial change, some religionists claim that the words “under God” merely state the right of the people to express their faith in a God, not that the nation itself was found on a belief in a God. Unfortunately, a look at the historical record indicates the latter is exactly what Congress intended when it inserted “under God” into the Pledge.

Today, the Pledge of Allegiance is said at more public places such as schools, football games, baseball games, and public events. They say this in public places to put in the head of the people to die for your country. The American Flag stands for freedom, the American dream, and the Pledge of Allegiance units the Americans.
