Abstract

Sony Corporation widely referred to as Sony is a multinational business corporation in Electronics, Entertainment and music. Sony Corporation founded in May, 1976 also offers financial services. Sony Corporation is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Sony major business is Sony Electronics in the US and is one of the largest semi-conductor manufacturers in the world.

According to Sony, it has an unlimited passion for technology, content and services, and relentlessly pursuit innovation. This drives Sony to deliver ground-breaking new excitement and entertainment like no other. Sony boasts of creating unique new cultures and experiences. (Sony Global, 2016)

Sony has been fairly been successful in the consumer electronics industry but has also remarkably made strides in mobile, games, movies, music, network services and financial services. Sony pictures, one of the diversified businesses by the parent company Sony Corporation had its security compromised on 24, Nov 2014. The company contacted the law enforcement and reached to reputable security consultants to curb the data breach.

This paper addresses the data breach and other loop holes in cyber security at Sony pictures and solutions to these problems.

Sony acknowledges that it experienced a cyber-attack which according to Sony’s official website caused a “significant system disruption”. Hackers stole personal information of its employees and celebrities working with Sony. The hackers went on to wipe data from its systems.
