ADD and ADHD through the Technological Eyes of WebMD

Residing in today’s technological era, technology has become a fixture in society as a means of communication and publication. As a result, companies and organizations have developed Web sites to ensure that their information is being distributed to the public. WebMD developed a Web site on the topic of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a common disorder found amongst children. An evaluation and review of WebMD’s ADD and ADHD Web site finds that the Web site adheres to the review criteria of authority to verify credentials, accuracy and currency of the information obtained, and objectivity and coverage to provide purpose and reasoning.

WebMD’s Web site possesses authority to speak on the topic of ADD and ADHD since the operations and support team not only work closely with medical experts; the team consist of medical professionals. The Web site provides the public with a detailed member list that lead to the biography of each member providing the reader with more evidence of their authority on the topic of ADD and ADHD. The information provided by the experts associated with the Web site and obtained for personal and/or professional use is verifiable by the reader, proving that the Web site is a reliable and credible source. The Web Site not only informs the reader of who, what, where and how their information is obtained; it also gives contact information to a live person to speak with if addition information is needed. They have proven to the reader that they are knowledgeable of the disorder with evidence supporting that ADD and ADHD is more common in boys, and appear in a child’s early years when they experience problems with paying attention (WebMD LLC, 2016); information supported by medical professionals who specialize in the study of ADD and ADHD.
