Hello, my name is and I will be comparing and contrasting two articles on the subject of mentorship. The first article is entitled “Say Yes to Mentoring! “by Olya Kovnatska and the second article is entitled “Mentoring that matters “ by Craig Guillot. Mentorship is important because it improves the skills and knowledge throughout the organization while improving interpersonal relationships. In the following slides I will be discussing the similarities and differences in the two articles, what’s known on this subject and also what is still to be discovered on the subject of mentorship.

What’s similar about these two journals is that they both agreed on most everything. The authors, Kovnatsha and Guillot, both believe that mentoring is essential for enhancing professional knowledge as well as it’s valuable to opening doors for professional opportunities. Both journals mentioned a similar plan or process that mentoring should encompass. These include the establishment of clear goals and desires that should be set in the form of a systematic approach- meaning that a plan should be made on how you will achieve those goals. Also, feedback should be a topic of conversation after having gone through the systematic approach to achieve the desired outcome. This feedback is necessary because it allows for the engagement of self-reflection and as Guillot said in his journal, “Haseley says the feedback that mentors provide can help steer mentees in the right direction and also keep them on track.” They also agreed that in order for mentorship to be effective, like in all relationships, both parties must communicate and be open and honest about what they need in the relationship. For example, a mentee may need additional guidance, and that should be expressed because often times the mentor has been through similar circumstances and can use their own personal experience to guide the mentee.
