Conflict Resolution Skills

I like the saying that conflict is a normal, not necessarily a bad thing. The presentation that my classmate did was on interpersonal conflict, which is a fact of life. About everyone faces some kind of interpersonal conflict at one point or multiply points in their life. We say that it often emerges more when people are stressed, or when everyone is under pressure of a coming deadline. I had many conflict experiences to this point in life and believed many will comes in the future.

We spend more time in a work environment than anywhere else. When talking about the organization, conflicts often arise as the result of a weakness. The weakness here can be a character flaw of an employee, poorly communicated directions, and lost in a way to handle a process or procedure. As mention before, conflict is not necessarily a bad thing, it will lead to better understanding of this weak situation. We can divide conflicts into positive and negative effects. We can say conflict improved self-knowledge, the only way to get out of conflict is learning the situation and finding a way out. This learning is knowledge. After a conflict resolved, it will be stored behind our head, and it will help us when future similar conflict situation arise. The positive effect also defined as the following: release of tension, stimulating change, analytically thinking, identification of weaknesses, group cohesiveness, challenge, and high quality decision.

When mention conflicts to another, most will think of the negative effects first, because is so easy to think of the disadvantages. In an organization, conflicts can turn into personal dislike and breaks teamwork. This becomes the organization weaknesses, could lead to low productivity, and low revenue for the company. We can define the negative effects as follows: high turnover of employees, tension, dissatisfaction, and climate of distress.
