Financial Services Industry:

In a comparison of both the Citigroup and American Express, there must be an overall analysis of their impact in the fragile industry they belong to, the financial services industry. The financial services industry is essential part of this country’s financial system.  The financial industry harbors two major compartments including commercial lending banks or financial institutions and investment banks.  It is fundamental player in safeguarding our money supply and providing necessary capital for funding purchases and fueling economic growth. The financial services industry consists mainly companies who provide capital opportunities to corporations and governments. The principal oversight responsibility of the financial services industry is given to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).  It is also structured to be self-regulated through organizations, such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Financial Industry Regulatory Association (FINRA).

American Express Company (AXP) or (AMEX):

American Express, founded in 1885 in Buffalo, New York, is a global financial services provider doing business around the world as a payment, network, travel, and publishing company. Its key products range from credit and charge cards, corporate and business cards, expense management, travel services, prepaid gift cards, international payment processing and stored value products and services. It also publishes an array of lifestyle magazines. However, its primary source of income is the discount revenue it charges on its numerous cards. American Express services consumers, small businesses, mid-market companies, and banking institutions.
