Understanding OCD

Psychological disorders occur within us all and some of us get help or grow out of them. Whether the disorder is small or big, all psychological disorders are hard to treat and get rid of because of their repetitiveness but OCD may be one of the hardest to get rid of completely. It causes intense anxiety disorders when an OCD person isn’t met with their personal needs. I was struck with a severe case of OCD when I was in high school but I am much better now. In psychology most of these disorders are studied at a biopsychosocial level which means I will run through this paper from a biological, psychological, and social standpoint. This will allow you to see exactly the cause and effect of OCD within a person.

Research has been done over what causes people to develop OCD and that is the cause of serotine transmitted throughout the brain. Serotonin is just one of the chemicals brain’s messenger that gives better signal for transmitting. Serotonin is what controls the regulation of mood, aggression, impulse control, sleep, appetite, body temperature and pain. Now you would think just giving a person more serotonin would cure their OCD but no it definitely helps though. In every medicine that is given to an OCD patient it raises the serotonin levels. Brains have been studied over people who have OCD and who don’t through images of the brain but no concrete evidence has been found.

Biologically your brain kind of works like a telephone. The nerve cells are interconnected in the body and it’s like playing the game “telephone”. Instead of “messages” being sent but by chemicals called neurotransmitter one each at a time. The nerve cells will send one neurotransmitter out into the gap between both cells then once it reaches the other end it will release its chemical.
