BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

Introduction

In today’s competitive landscape, the point-of-sale system is a key differentiator for retailers. POS systems need to meet changing business needs under tight budgets and aggressive timelines. With POS systems increasingly customized to retailer requirements, vendor tests may be insufficient, requiring retailers themselves to invest in testing.

Investing in a POS system is challengeable decision. It is business decision worth for deeper analysis due to the fact that investing in POS system should help one to increase the efficiency of the business processes and to improve business productivity. There are various types of retail POS software solutions on the market. For an entrepreneur is the best to choose the POS software, that could run the business operations in the way that an entrepreneur wants.

Comparing the two retail businesses, who are selling almost the same amount and type of items, and they stock basically same amount of those items, the differences between the business that operates with simple cash register and the one that had been installed POS software, could be seen as follows:

The business that works with cash register, could not afford the advantage, their employees to spent additional time with the customers because when the items that are displayed in the store are sold, the employees should count the current level of stocks for one particular day. Possibly, customers are spending additional time at the cash register, in this could also be disadvantage due to the fact that nowadays, everyone time worth and people do not like to spend inefficiently.

Apart of that, business who had been installed POS software, could afford their employees to spent more time with the customers because the system automatically count the items that are stored and there is also streamlined transactions at the counter because retail POS software operates faster, safer and more effectively.
