CASE STUDY: TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE

1) Jenny seems to see her lie as a simple case of manipulating an unfair system. Is there anything wrong with manipulating the system? Is her strategy fair to the other students in her business management class?

Firstly, manipulating the system is indeed a wrong and unethical thing to do. Jenny as a student has her responsibilities towards her study, just like all the other students. In fact, every student cannot avoid their duties. They owe duty to themselves. A student’s duty is to read their books properly, do their homework or assignments, attend classes regularly, pay respect to lecturers and elders, love younger ones, and take part in a play or some form of recreation. In this case, Jenny does not only abandon her duties but also showing unethical behaviour as a student such as lying to the lecturer.

Every decision made has its consequences. If she got caught lying, it will not only be affecting herself, but also her parents. It will be humiliating if her friends know that she lied just to get extra time to study. Plus, nobody would believe if she is really sick the next time she shows her MC. In addition, there is a possibility of her being expelled from the university. Thus, it will then create a bigger problem. This is because, she also has her duties towards her parents above everything else. A good student should perform her duties to her parents which is to make them proud. Jenny will not only be disappointing her parents, but they will also be ashamed of what their daughter had done. It is a fact that little lies could create big problems.
