For my second article review, I took a look at advancements in handicap assistance technology. At first I had a problem looking for an article but then I reassessed my search terms and realized that I wasn't searching for the correct topic. I had originally started by searching for articles on the advancements of accessibility technology for handicap peoples but then I realized that accessibility technology and assistive technology aren't the same. I found a product called the 'Sesame Touch-Free SmartPhone' which is a new (and still in development) type of smart-phone that will revolutionize the cell phone industry. The Sesame Touch-Free smart-phone allows for people with disabilities or that are handicapped (because of a disease or injury) to be able to use a smart-phone for the first time. The phone uses facial recognition/ facial structure tracking to determine the positioning of the on-screen mouse that is used with their smartphone. Unfortunately, the phone is still under development because there are a few problems that still need to be fixed. However, the concept of it being put to use by handicapped individuals to allow them to use smartphones is an exceptional idea. Although, their problem is adjusting the facial structure configuration software “to work with people with severe ALS, who can’t move their heads at all, using vision-tracking technology.” The company Sesame; that originally designed the touch-free smartphone is hoping to expand their business by making software or a program that will make the same technology available on other smartphone devices, so that they can lower the cost of their own product so that they can make it more available to handicapped people everywhere. This product/ technology also allows for quadriplegics and handicapped people to use Sesame’s technology to not only have control of their own phone but also allows them to control the many devices around them that we all take for granted every day because we have unlimited...
