1. Introduction

Mr. Chance who just bought Junction Hotel for a few days found that the hotel did not work smoothly and efficiently. There is no clear organization structure, role and responsibilities among departments are vague. Moreover, the absence of rules, procedures and IT system make it even worse. The hotel seems to be sitting on a volcano. The conflicts will break out in any minute. However one disaster after another, it is recently estimated that the hotel business would undergo more deteriorated growth rates. Domestic and overseas leisure tourism still cannot cover the reduction of business travel which is vital for the industry’s recovery. Therefore, lower room rates which can attract more last minute custom will become the key in defeating other competitors.

The lower room rates mean more cost cutting and efficient operation than the current. But this obviously cannot come true under the present circumstances. Hence, rationalization of Junction Hotel organization seems to be a desirable strategy. The essay firstly introduces the main feature of rational organization, including some theories and operating principle and gives some examples in its use in modern companies. 2. Analysis

According to the theories of Scientific management era originated from industrial stage, a rational factor should have well-designed bureaucracy, which means the clear definitions of roles and responsibilities, strict execution by all kinds of rules and procedures. The theories argued that workers only pursue fair wage, they are rational.
