In recent years, cybercrime has gained increased attention in the criminal justice system. Cybercrime can be defined as any criminal activity that involves computer and networks whereby an individual can take advantage of the internet to conduct predatory personal crimes and property offenses.

Fearless of prosecution, cybercriminals from all over the world have been motivated to lurk the internet and menace the financial status of a company and emerge as a nation’s security threat. Cybercrimes differ from most terrestrial crimes since it’s easy to learn; can be committed without being physically present and requires little resources. According to CERT/CC, there is an increased number of reported cybercrime activities from 2000 to date. In addition, a countless number of instances of illegal access remain unreported as victims fear potential copycat crimes, exposure to vulnerabilities and loss of public confidence. Rapid advancements in the Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) have encouraged offending cybercrimes to be legally intricate and technical complex.

The common goal of most cybercriminals is to get rich quicker in the easiest way possible. It, therefore, makes companies and other users’ accounts at risk since hackers take advantage of the internet or a basic WLAN to launch an attack that would lead to the transfer of wealth.
