Strategies for Success

The freedom and flexibility offered by online learning comes with important responsibilities. To be a successful online student, I must develop self-discipline resist procrastination, temptations or distractions, embrace new technology, participate in the group and avoid isolation. Online learning pushes me to improve your written communication skills. The virtual classroom can produce a variety of students from all parts of the globe with interesting perspectives and ideas for the discussion assigned. The strength of cyberspace is in its numbers. Shea explains it like this, “The reason asking questions online works is that a lot of knowledgeable people are reading the questions. And if even a few of them offer intelligent answers, the sum total of world knowledge increases. The Internet itself was founded and grew because scientists wanted to share information.” (Shea, Netiquette) This idea of sharing knowledge is amazing and knowledge is power. I am now more motivated to be successful in the virtual classroom.

Planning

In order for me to achieve success through the virtual higher learning platform I must plan. The planning that I have done for this course includes several points that are necessary to understand before beginning the course online. I have viewed several videos, read blogs and taken quizzes on a variety of subjects through the university’s Student Services and Academic Skills Center. These exercises have familiarized me with the resources available to help me plan and organize my online courses. Some strategies that I have found to be helpful are breaking big assignment into manageable parts, creating a study space that is quiet, has doors that I can close and has adequate lighting.
