Mission Trip: Part B

I, along with ten other women missionaries, will be journeying to the country of Niger. Niger is one the poorest countries of the world. Along with being one of the poorest countries, it is also one of the hottest. As a result, Niger is also known as the “frying pan” of Africa. Although, I'm sure it may be tempting, we should be sure to avoid wearing revealing clothing. Although Niger may be a challenging location to travel to and around, the fact of being willing to even take on such great task is rewarding enough in itself. Niger consists of cities filled with beautiful adobe housing and streets filled with busy markets, which sell leather, pottery, and many other decorative crafts. Despite, how amazing the description sounds, Niger suffers from a limited government. Niger is ran by a government with very limited support and funds. Niger consists of 15.5 million people, with a 3.25% population growth rate. (Central Intelligence Agency, 2016). 91% of the population are currently living below poverty level. Due to the limited government, schools are also limited. Many of the population can neither read or write. Surprisingly, there are more illiterate girls than there are boys. Girls are forced at a very young age to marry and to start having children. There are 4,431,944 girls who are illiterate. We will be targeting 50,000 of those girls. Our goal on this mission is to help provide the basics of reading and writing for women, so that they can pass it along to their children to help build an educational foundation for them.

As I've mentioned previously, this mission trip will be quite the challenge. Expenses includes flights, passports and visa, food, lodging, supplies, and transportation. Months before leaving for the mission trip, all missionaries are required to have a passport and visa. If you don't have a passport, you will most definitely need one for this trip. For those...
