Why study corrections? I am interested in your thoughts/opinion on why we should study corrections.

I think that Corrections is a very important subject to be educated in even if you do not plan to work in law enforcement. As an American, we have rights, and if for some reason we make a dumb decision and get locked up, we need to know our rights and should be educated in the correctional process to ensure we are not abused because even prisoners have rights.

To add a personal belief of mine, currently we live in an era where police officers are seen as evil and people believe that the system is broken. I think that society thinks that way because they are uneducated in their rights and have no respect for others. We are all born with specific rights, but most people think that we have more rights than we really do. For example, I watched a video where a woman was pulled over and when the police officer reached the window, the woman was smoking a cigarette and the officer asked her to put it out and she refused (she does not have to put out the cigarette but it is just courtesy). After that, she was very disrespectful to the officer and he asked her to get out of the car. She refused and said that she does not have to get out of the car if she is not being arrested. If a police officer asks for you to get out of the car, he is doing it for his own safety and you must follow his order. This woman thought she had a right to stay in her car when in reality she did not. The woman was then pulled out of her car, the officer had this right, and then society screamed police brutality.
