Green House Effect
Green House effect the trapping of the sun's warmth in a planet's lower atmosphere, due to the greater transparency of the atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun than to infrared radiation emitted from the planet's surface.
Effects of Green House emission on the climate:
* Rising of sea levels
* Rising of Temperatures
* Glacier – Melting of Ice
* Increased Carbon Dioxide in the Atmosphere
* Shifting patterns of rainfalls
* Altering incoming solar radiation and out-going infrared (thermal) radiation that are part of Earth’s energy balance
Actions done by human in a negative way to contribute to Green House Effect:
* Burning of fossil fuels
* The usage of fertilizers
* land filling of waste
Preventions:
* Reduce, reuse and recycle - Buying products with minimal packaging will help to reduce waste.
* Plant a Tree - Trees absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.
ACID RAIN
Acid rain any rainfall made so acidic by atmospheric pollution that it causes environmental harm, chiefly to forests and lakes. The main cause is the industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the waste gases from which contain sulphur and nitrogen oxides which combine with atmospheric water to form acids.
Effects of Acid Rain on the climate:
* drains important minerals from the leaves and the soil
* it affects trees, lakes, buildings and agricultural land
* eats into stone and metal
Actions done by human in a negative way to contribute to Acid Rain:
* Carbon Monoxide from cars
* Burning of fossil fuels (e.g. burning of coal)
* Running of factories
Preventions:
* Produce energy without using fossil fuels.
* Use renewable sources like solar and wind power etc.
* Minimize the Miles – Instead of driving your car everyday; use the public transportation; walk or ride a bicycle if...
