Rwanda’s Genocide

Between April and July 1994, almost eight hundred thousand Tutsi Rwandans were killed with no mercy. This bloody genocide was a result of a long standing ethnic competition and conflict between the Hutu Rwandans (majority) and the Tutsi Rwandans (minority). However, despite of the presence of the UN peacekeeping forces in Rwanda, this genocide still sparked and burned the lives of many innocent people, leaving the armed forces useless and hopeless.

At the time of Rwanda’s genocide, the armed UN forces were commanded not to use force and to just negotiate instead. However, this peaceful strategy obviously failed and led to the completion of the genocide’s plan, which started by murdering the President in her own house. Moreover, some French and European fully armed forces made their way to Rwanda to protect and get some Rwandans outside of the killing scene. Unfortunately, the saved people were only the white European ones, who were not even targeted or threatened by the Hutus. Thus, the result was an African country emptied from White people or armed forces, opening the way for an African majority to whip off an African minority.

I personally support peace and peaceful strategies when they make sense only. In the case of Rwanda’s conflict, I think that force must have been used to keep the peace present in the country. Moreover, I think that regardless to the loss of the eighteen American soldiers in Somalia, the US government and the UN committee should have commanded their forces to fight for the innocent lives in Rwanda instead of withdrawing from the country. On the other hand, and about the European side, I think that it was racist and unacceptable to rescue the whites while the black Africans had to sit there in Rwanda, watching their death coming slowly towards them.

Therefore, if we could rewind the time, I think that the best way to avoid Rwanda’s catastrophe would be using force to compete with the Hutus force in Rwanda. In fact,...
