2. Performed symbolic complex is having a preconceived idea about something that you have not seen or experienced before. Then, when you do see or experience the “thing,” you automatically measure it against this idea. If it looks just like you thought it would look according to the pictures, postcards, or what people have told you, you are pleased, but it if doesn’t measure up to these expectations, you are disappointed. According to Percy, you are not truly experiencing life fully. Only people who discover the “thing” initially can see it for what it truly is.
