Should there be a set of moral standards?

There have been many cries throughout history that have stated that all people are created equal. With the abolishment of slavery and discrimination, many have also argued that all people should treat equally and that no one person is considered greater than another. While these statements are noble and are widely stated, the actions and differential treatment that are prevalent in today’s society display the need more than ever for the creation and enforcement of a set of moral standards that applies to everyone.

Moral Standards and Double Standards

The argument can be made that society will never be able to ensure that there are equal rights given to the people of that society if there is a double set of standards and morals that apply to different members. Different laws and different treatment for different members of society will always ensure that there will never be equality or an end to discrimination of its members.

The impacts of creating a set of moral standards would have staggering implications on the impact on the members of that society. Implementing a set of moral standards that would apply to every member of society would almost guarantee that every person in that society is given a voice and the ability to be treated fairly, equally, and fairly.

It is almost incomprehensible when considering the fact that many of the policy makers and leaders of not only our society but those of other countries are routinely found guilty and associated with many practices and offenses which are deemed to not meet moral standards. We have seen where many of these leaders, politicians, and officials rarely face accountability for these actions and when they do, they are treated with a different set of principles and handling in the legal system and are allowed to retain their leadership roles....
