In the 1990's, many American cities adopted new aggressive principles in their law enforcement. Many law enforcement officers acted as if they were above the law and unfortunately lives were taken because of those acts. Every Mothers Son by Kelly Anderson and Tami Gold, is a documentary about three women who lose their sons because of police brutality. It shows the stories and lives of these families, and the civil movement that was started against police brutality. It shows the women struggling and working hard for the justice of the death of their sons. In this essay I will explain my reaction to the documentary Every Mothers Son.

In 1994, Anthony Raymond Baez was playing a street football game. During the game the football hit the police car that was parked and the officer inside accused Anthony Baez of being in a gang. Eventually the police officer put Anthony Baez in a choke hold which caused his death. Iris Baez, the mother of Anthony Baez started a local civil movement which brought other mothers who had their songs killed by officers as well. Amadou Diallo was an unarmed man when he was killed by four police officers who shot him 41 times in the doorway of his apartment building. Amadous mother; Kadiatou Diallo heard of the news and flew in from Africa eventually joining the movement as well. A jewish man by the name of Gidone Busch was pepper sprayed and then shot to death by police while holding a small hammer. Witnesses say Gidone Busch was no threat to the police officers but was killed anyway. Doris Bucch Boskey who was Gidone's mother is the third mother presented in the documentary whom also fought for the social change of anyone who has ever lost a loved one to police brutality.

I was shocked to learn of the way the criminal justice system was acting in the 1990's in regards to the indictments of the police officers who killed the young men. In the documentary all three victims were not breaking the law whatsoever but were still killed anyway....
