Diversity

the condition of being different or having differences

Ethnocentrism

Melting pot

Minority group

a group characterized by a sense of separate identity and awareness of status apart from a usually larger group of which it forms or is held to form a part

Emigration

Immigration

1. What are some of the ways groups of people are identified?

Some of the most popular ways that people are identified is by their race, class, and ethnicity. I believe that race is the easiest due to the fact that it is the most obvious to a point. You can tell if someone is white, black, or Hispanic before you are close enough to talk to them. Race and ethnicity in some ways go together. An ethnic group is a group that has a distinct culture of its own. It tends to be a group that shares an ancestral heritage. Race is defined more by physical characteristics. Thus, a black Dominican and an African American would be of the same race, but not of the same ethnicity.

In general, people fall into four classes. The lower, working, middle, and the upper classes. The lines can begin to blur between these different classes and someone may identify with more than one class....
