Background of the KC Store

The Kendall store originated back at Kendall College’s former campus in Evanston, Illinois. The Kendall store ran like a book store and had school texts that were required for classes. Students also were able to sell books back to the store after their academic quarter was over. For this reason there had to be a Kendall college staff member in charge at all times to run the store’s daily operations. In 2005 everything for the Kendall store changed after moving to the new current campus. The school switched to an online book purchasing system called M.B.S. books and students had to purchase their books from them, other book stores or websites that sold the required texts for their classes.

The move also changed the landscape of the Kendall store because it no longer required the need to sell or buy books and there was no need for a huge space. Since the Kendall store did not have the inventory of books when they moved to its current campus, they made the area of the store smaller and with little inventory. The school decided to save room and also allow students to take over the daily functions of the store with no supervision from a Kendall staffed member. Some of the store’s profit was used to fund spectacular events for the students like the Winter Semi-Formal, the Kendall Classic Golf, etc. Now the Kendall’s student life department handles student events and the store’s profits no longer funds student activities, the funds come from student’s activity fee.
