Benefits of Mobile Business Intelligence in the Area of Sales

As mobile computing becomes ubiquitous in both individual and professional lives, people are discovering more and more opportunities to make full use of these powerful devices. These devices do not only improve our personal lives but also make us more productive and effective at work. The era of desktop computing and laptops are gradually fading out of our system because of the introduction of mobile computing. Research has shown that many organizations are using computer based data management and analysis tools to reveal trends and patterns that would otherwise remain buried in their huge operational databases environment [1]. This trend has brought about the convergence between Business Intelligence (BI) and mobility where people use smart phones and other mobile devices to be abreast with business information.

Mobile intelligence (MI) is positioned to change how organizations deliver, consume, and act on information (Turban & Volonino, 2011). This has made it possible for people to sort immediate decisions by accessing information on their handheld devices (anywhere, anytime) and acting on the information retrieved to make very insightful decisions that helps productivity. Business intelligence (BI) which is defined as a category of applications for gathering, storing, analyzing and providing access to data to help enterprise users to make better decisions has proven to be powerful (Turban & Volonino, Glossary, 2011). But as workers gradually move outside the borders of traditional office space and away from the confines of desktops and laptops, BI providers have sought ways to make their data more mobile. Organizations that have integrated Mobile Business Intelligence into its structure have gained advantage over its competitors by improving its end product, improving employee output and improving level of client service or satisfaction.
