After doing the practice one and two off of Pearson’s MyStudentSuccessLab I have learned many valuable tools that will help me to search for creditable sources and how to use them for educational purpose. One thing that I learned was not assume that an Internet source reliable. One needs to check an author’s credentials and make sure the information is found in other sources. The Internet is an open source because the majority of the information is not checked/verified for accuracy. I also learned that I need to be aware of certain sites and companies that have hidden messages especially when it comes to sites that ask for money. In regards to copy right laws I have learned that if I am unsure if something is against copy right laws to ask. I also learned that if a photo is used for educational purposes you may be able to use the photos without the photographer’s permission under the Fair Use doctrine. In addition when trying to find a useful website use the website evaluation strategies. Don’t randomly search for information. Search for keywords and phrases when looking for the website. In addition to looking at the URL also look at the synopsis. Then you can tell where the website come from. Also you can tell whether it is biased, what its purpose is and if it is researched based. The main thing that I didn’t learn for the exercise is mainly the type of websites to stay away from. I went to a college prep high school and a major part of the curriculum was being able to determine the which sources are helpful and which sources aren’t for example I have learned
