Week 3 –Tracking the Intersection of Culture and Media

The general media, by way of the viewer, have greatly influenced the way entertainment has affected the public for several reasons. I am an avid music lover, feeling uplifted by all types of music and genres. However, the situational boundaries for some of today’s music for the use of entertainment purposes pushes the limits on how the songs words are played out to all those individuals that listen. These situations give an essential vibe for the viewer to get a mental impression on certain, which actually translate their meaning into something that the general population can relate to. These “lessons” have caused some ill fated acts to occur with certain people thinking that the song is talking to them and telling them what to do, or saying what they feel. The acts of gang violence, police killings, drug use and sexual innuendoes have done nothing other than create controversy and the values of how a person behaves from the listening to the words is lost. The act of peer pressure also constitutes the reaction of certain behaviors and has created a change in the culture overall, not just for Americans but it seems to have become an epidemic in many other countries as well. Even though some of the music has become “tainted” in its delivery, this has helped us to embark on the timeline of the last few of decades in the embracement of talking to our children more and helping them to see the harm that certain acts and verbiage can have on an individual both physically and mentally which can lead to a downward spiral and ultimate demise.
