1. Based on what you learned in class about recruitment and selection, explain how you would (a) recruit for and (b) select the best applicant for the job you investigated in assignment #2 (O*Net).

a. Recruiting: The position I focused on in my O*Net project was a Nurse Practitioner. Obviously a specialized field like this requires recruiting in a specific industry labor market. I would use a number of different tactics to recruit for this position:

i. Referrals from existing employees are an excellent way to recruit for this type of position. Given the specialized nature and complexity of this position, NP’s who have worked with a current employee is a great way to screen potential applicants.

ii. Internet job boards and professional web sites like the Louisiana Nurse Practitioners Associate are great ways to get a broader reach for the position.

iii. Local NP Association meetings, which focus on educational opportunities for NP’s, are also an excellent way to meet individuals who might be in the job market.
