Moms.com negotiation

In the moms.com negotiation I’ve approached the buyer by what I thought was a friendly honest approach were I gave the buyer the opportunity to advance in the negotiation terms. I did that to gain the buyers trust for future deals as well as a hope to include the other show (joiners) to the current deal. I end up selling for 9 million, airing each episode 6 times and joiners as well.

My first step was by offering the buyer a first year contract for the minimum rating and depending on the rating after the first year we make another contract for four years but it was above the buyers budget so we worked something around my first offer we I get a reasonable price that fits the buyer’s budget.

I was surprise of how flexible I was when I tried to be honest by Laing all my options on the table. But what surprised me more that the buyer was not considerate of honestly or at least it did not affect our negotiation terms. I tried a different approach than the first negotiation where I lied about the offers I got therefore I got a better deal. However, I thought of being honest and ethical is more worthy than not being. It would help building a trustful relationship between the buyer and the seller which would be favorable in the future.

I’ve learned that I am a negotiator who’s not looking only to satisfy his side of the table but other sides as well.

I liked being honest and I think I would always be. However, it does not necessary means that I would always give out all information but I’ll keep some information to lead for a better deal to my side as well.
