Introduction

This project is on Supply Chain Management in Crompton Greaves Limited. Crompton Greaves was founded in 1878 by Col. R.E.B. Crompton as R.E.B. Crompton and company. The company was merged with F.A Parkinson in 1927 to form Crompton Parkinson Ltd. Greaves Cotton and Company, established by James Greaves in 1859, was appointed as their concessionaire in India. In 1947, just before India's Independence, Lala Karam Chand Thapar bought Greaves Cotton, when the company was put up for sale. The name Crompton Greaves was adopted on 2 August 1966, following a court-directed amalgamation of Greaves Cotton and Crompton Parkinson Ltd.

The company has grown over the years and have become one of the largest India’s Power sector companies. Crompton Greaves majorly deals with Power system and Industrial electric equipments. It also deals in consumer products. About 50% of its power system products are exported. In last few years the company has acquired lot of companies to establish its presence at the global level. Some of the major acquisitions are Pauwels Group of Belgium, Ganz in Hungary, Microsol in Ireland, Sonomatra in France and MSE in USA. Company has also established a Transformer manufacturing plant in USA.

The company has 22 plants in India. The no. plant of acquired companies outside India is 8. So, the company has modified its Supply chain management according to their different business.
