Introduction

1.1 Aim

Our aim for this project is to find out what is burnout, how can we know when an employee having burnout, causes of burnout, how burnout effects employees and ways to avoid it in today’s stress-filled jobs.

1.2 Authorization

This project was given by Metropolitan College, University Foundation Program of our Business Communication lecturer, Ms. Malini Kumar on the first week on third semester.

1.3 Problems

Nowadays, there are many employees facing burnout in their stress-filled jobs. Most of them do not know how to avoid and handle burnout in the right way. Some even ended their life. Recently, there are many news of employees committed suicide due to their stressful jobs. This issue has caused the country to lost potential employees and image of an organization. Therefore, we had decided to carry out this issue as part of our project.

1.4 Theory of Burnout

Burnout is the loss of meaning in one's work. One of the most prevalent theories of job burnout is that people for many reasons become completely ‘stressed out’ (in the popular vernacular). Yet, this popular phrase carries with a various reasons why people begin to have difficulty coping with their job.

  “Burnout is a long-term process characterised by “chronic malfunctioning” and negative and cynical attitudes towards clients and work in general” (Skinner & Roche, 2005, p. 5)

The meaning of burnout also occurs when the calling of caring and giving to others in emotional development, intellectual growth or physical wellness can’t gives sufficient meaning to a person. Everyone will face different stages of burnout. People who work in a high demand job, suddenly becomes disillusioned, exhausted and uninterested in work. For example, a Doctor who works long hours and has people lives in his/her hands every day can be more stressful compare to other job.
