Plagiarism

Plagiarism can be defined as the act of using an original work from a source without according appropriate recognition to the party that created the work. In other ways, it can be perceived as a deliberate act of stealing another party’s work and/or presenting work that was not originated by an individual as their own. It is also consider an illegal act in most cases, especially pertaining to copyrighted material/media content/publications. Plagiarism is very common in an academic environment, among other places, and in almost all cases in the academic environment, there usually are policies set in place to warn against and to prevent plagiarism.

In this class (and in other courses), I can prevent plagiarism in different ways by taking different recommended measures. As a student, I can definitely pay close attention to the content of my work to ensure that I, not only issue credit where it is due, but also ensure as much as I possibly can that my work (written and otherwise) is truly and originally mine and of my effort and research where needed. Though there may be (and have been) occasions where students have accidentally/unintentionally plagiarized by either forgetting to cite their work properly, or ignoring/overlooking the need to stay on that track, I would try to remind myself as often as I can that it is up to me to keep safe from misrepresenting work that have been authored by others other than me. I am pretty sure that the penalties that would follow such action, put in state by both the school and each professors in their respective classes, would keep me grounded as much as possible—if all else fails.
