The organization that I have chosen is the American Red Cross. This organization was founded by Clara Barton and some of her friends in Washington, D.C. on May 21, 1881 (American Red Cross, 2012). Her vision was to see a similar type of organization like she saw with the Swiss-inspired global Red Cross network while visiting Europe during the Civil War. In 1882, Clara Barton campaign for an American Red Cross and ratification of the Geneva Convention for war-injured Soldiers, in which the United States did ratify (American Red Cross, 2012). The values of the American Red Cross are to give relief to and serve as a medium of communication between the armed forces of the United States and to their families as well as to providing national and international disaster relief and mitigation (American Red Cross, 2012).

With that said this would promote a very strong company culture which allow the employees in the organization to empower themselves with organizations culture. Communication within the American Red Cross impacts the organization very deeply. From the employees getting the exact information on where the disaster is at and help those in need. Employees view the American Red Cross as an organization that if tension would arise between management, staff or within society, the organization would be affected very hard and could be skewed from the top down until the issue at hand was fixed. One thing that I see that a breakdown of communication could affect this organization would be its core values. Those values of communication is what makes up the American Red Cross when dealing within the organization and outside in the field.
