ABSTRACT
The purpose of this experiment is to determine the metal iron (Fe) in sugarcane juice by using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), in this experiment the sample used from a sugarcane at different places, stall A and stall B. The sugarcane is digested by using 2mL of concentrated nitric acid and 5mL of concentrated hydrochloric acid. Then the mixture is heated in a water-bath at temperature of 90-95°C for 2½ hours. Later, it is cooled and filtered, once it is clear from particulate matter it is then diluted in 100mL volumetric flask using deionized (D.I.) water with 10mL of filtered mixture. The standard is prepared using the 1000ppm of standard iron (Fe), 5mL of 1000ppm is then diluted in 50mL of volumetric flask labeled as 100ppm. The 100ppm of Fe is then used to prepared a series of standard (1,3,5,7,9)ppm. The result shows that the concentrations of Fe in sugarcane stall A are 0.076ppm and 0.089ppm which are in average while concentrations of sugarcane at stall B are 0.031ppm and 0.027ppm.
INTRODUCTION
The industry is concern of the sensitive quality control create the need for quick, accurate, and sensitive methods of detecting small quantities of elements in samples. AAS has become one of the most widely used methods for detection of ppm or ppb concentrations of analytes in aqueous or other solutions. This technique involves measurement of the absorption of discrete wavelengths from a line source, such as a hollow cathode lamp, by ground-state atoms in the gas phase. Iron is an essential mineral that is required for...
