Case Study 7: Amir Jawaid

The team development stages are as follow:

Forming stage: The primary concern is the initial entry of member. Every member is thinking how this team or group is going to be beneficial to them and what would they have to offer.

Storming stage: In this stage all members are emotionally charged, every member is trying to find their place and role in the group. Things are blurry for all members and they are trying to figure out each other’s interpersonal style.

Norming stage: In this stage the group is finally starting to come together, harmony is slowly being reached. The members are starting to get comfortable with each other. Coordinating meeting are a lot easier.

Performing stage: In this stage total integration starts between the group member and more complex tasks and assignment are handled with cohesion. More unity is prevalent in this stage and members are more motivated.

Adjourning stage: In this stage the members are done working with each other and have achieved a common goal efficiently. They are ready to get disbanded and if needed in the future they can get back together without any problems.

I feel like everybody in the group besides mike is in the norming stage, while mike is still stuck in the storming stage of a group development. If Christine knew about the team development stages, she would have figured out the problem mike was facing. He felt left out because the group met casually, he had a feeling of abandonment. Christine should have talked to mike about this in more detail. I had to deal with this kind of situation in my management career bunch of times. Open communication helps and avoidance can turn this into a bigger problem.

In my opinion the primary problem is that Christine needs to be a sterner leader, if I were in her place I would totally give mike a warning or at least a written not, since he never showed up. I would’ve let mike know during the norming stage that every member needs to...
