7. Do you think Boston Beer can continue to compete effectively against the giant brewers who are moving with their infinitely greater resources into the specialty beer market with their own microbrews? Why or why not?

In my opinion, Boston Beer can continue to compete effectively against the giant brewers, like Anheiser-Busch and Coors, for it has built up a good brand image. There are several aspects. Boston Beer has been recognized as one of the industry's most famous microbrews through its effort. Boston Beer has relative stable customer groups, which will benefits the continued growth of itself. Thus, Boston Beer keeps a sales force and relative to competitors, it can provide a much higher level of quality service than the larger mass brewers. Consequently, this quality product and sale service quality offer Boston Beer competitive edge in the beer market. Therefore, Boston Beer can compete effectively with even the largest beer brand in the nation if not the world. In effect, no matter how well-planned a mass brewer’s sales and marketing strategy is or how much money it invests in a business strategy, it cannot overcome the image problem related to the quantity versus quality perception. In contrast, as Boston Beer has built up its brand and never compromised on quality versus price, the customers will be used to think Boston Beers first and in this way, the sale force will be strengthened.

8. In 1998, Boston Beer produced more than two dozen styles of beer. Then a few years later it was down to just a few. Now it’s up to more than 21 again. Do you see any problems with this?

At first, Boston Beer tried to attract customers’ attention. As we know, consumers have different tastes, so Boston Beer offer them a serious of choices and they can choose from it.
