Obsession sometimes does not lead to a good end, in this case the main character of Roald Dahl and Alfred Hitchcock “Lamb to the Slaughter” is Mary Maloney a six-month pregnant woman who is obsessed with his husband Patrick. Dahl makes the reader think about what might happen next. Both versions have an interesting ending. The reading works well as a reading material because they both keep you interested. The title is relevant, Mary kills her husband with a frozen leg of lamb. The story takes place on the middle of the twenty century, this is not your usual story it’s a short but fun.

In Dahl’s “Lamb to the Slaughter” Mary Maloney is the main character that is pregnant, she is married to Patrick whom is a detective. She knows exactly every move he makes, that might be consider somewhat creepy. He came at the same time he usually does Mary was waiting for him anxiously. They greet each other with a kiss, but something was not right. Patrick tells her he was going to leave her; of course she knew what it meant. The reader can imagine the reaction of Mary, a pale face and just speechless. One would thing her reaction would have been completely different of what actually was going to happen. She walked calmly into the basement, opened the freezer, she hesitated for a moment, what she was getting out was a leg of lamb. She then came into the living room walking like a robot her face looked like she was dead. His husband was talking on the phone when Mary decided to hit him on the back of the head, he dropped dead. For a person to drop dead a leg of lamb must be pretty hard. She walked back into the kitchen, turned on the oven and started to cook the lamb. Every Thursday they went out to eat, she made an exception; she decided to buy groceries to have dinner inside. Before she headed out she practiced how to talk so it would not look suspicious.
