The American Dream

The American Dream; one of those things it’s near impossible to define. The American dream is what draws millions of immigrants to the United States year round and what people already here usually stride for. To one person the American dream may be winning the lotto, as for another it may be to make enough money to go back to their country and live comfortably. The American dream is different for everybody, because we all have different goals to fulfill; making it hard to put your finger on a concrete definition. One thing is sure, that those who are in search of the American Dream are seeking a better life.

There isn’t a concrete meaning to this “Dream”, yet so many people find themselves chasing it. Maybe because it gives them hope or even motivation; working for the American Dream is a fight to prosper. To many people this fight seems to be never ending because barriers such as poverty, inequality, and race are in the way. The American Dream is easier said than done; people can work through retirement and still feel that it wasn’t a mission accomplished. Not accomplished maybe because they expected more than they were able to fulfill, or more reasonably, not accomplished because the obstacles they had to face kept holding them down.

The American Dream is what has attracted people to the United States since long ago. The early settlers came in search of religious freedom and prosperity; the Dream worked out because they were able to practice whichever religion they pleased and to some extent they had more here than in Europe. Now People come here daily, both legally and illegally, to get a taste of the American Dream; which just isn’t as simple anymore. The American Dream is usually linked to prosperity which goes hand in hand with economic needs and money. With so many people shooting for the same need and wants, competition gets in the way many times stripping people of opportunity.
