THE RESEARCH PROPOSAL
An MBA research proposal is a document submitted by an MBA student after the completion of the Research Methodology Module. This document is, as defined, an outline of the students intention to study an organizational problem using the scientific research methodology in order to propose potential solutions to eliminate or reduce the impact of the problem concerned. It may be possible to undertake research into an envisaged problem arising from impending environmental forces which may affect the organizational performance.
In fact the proposal can be viewed as a Strategic Plan for your dissertation. A well compiled proposal is a basic requisite for successful completion of the dissertation. A structure for such a proposal is provided.
1. TITLE (this should be finalized after deciding on the research questions and the scope of the study. The title should be representative of the research undertaken).
2. INTRODUCTION
2.1 Background – Broad description of the Managerial problem and the contextual background.
2.2 Evidence to support the existence of the problem.
2.3 Significance of the research. Potential contribution to management practice/theory
3. PRELIMINARY LITERATURE REVIEW
3.1 Review of recent research in the proposed problem area. Seminal research too is important.
3.2 Relevant theories that underpin the problem area.
3.3 Development of a conceptual Framework of the problem based on a critical evaluation of the literature. It is good practice to cite research that is supportive and also ones that are critical. You should decide the position that you wish to take and state why.
3.4 Using the concepts emerging from the conceptual Model, identify the Research Problem and the associated Research question/s.
3.5 Development of Hypotheses
