Breast Cancer Risk

Breast cancer risk, it is something that in many cases, it’s not known why a woman gets breast cancer. As the years go by the percentage seems to increase and then decrease. In many cases 75% of all women with breast cancer have no known risk factors. Breast cancer, is something that is mostly common on women’s than it is on men’s.

There are three risk factors that are included: Significantly Higher Risk, Moderately Higher Risk, and Slightly Higher Risk. Getting older is a risk for breast cancer when you increase as you age. About 77% of women get diagnosed with breast cancer when reaching the age of 50 years old and over. Family history, it’s even more risky for the disease when it’s a “first degree” relative, like a mother, sister or even aunt. In fact, the risk can be higher if your relative developed breast cancer before menopause and had cancer in both breasts. Genetics that carry alternations in either two familial breast cancer genes called BRCA1 or BRCA2 are at higher risk.

Now in days there are many different things you can do to lower your risk of being diagnosed, with breast cancer. Most importantly breast cancer prevention starts with you having healthy habits, such as including reducing the amount of alcohol you drink, and staying physically active. Breast-feed, this may not seem like a risk factor for breast cancer but when in fact breast-feed can have a greater protective effect when you breast-feed for a longer period of time than normal. Limiting alcohol, if wanting to drink it is best to try to drink beer, or wine, and if so you have to drink limit yourself to no more than one drink a day. Controlling your weight, obesity can cause breast cancer especially later in life especially after menopause.
