Emerging Technologies – Assignment 3

The owner of the website realizes that the website needs a major overhaul. First I will explain what social media is; “Social media is the media we use to be social. That’s it.”

Now I will explain relevant technologies of my choice, “Micro-blogging is a form of communication which people and businesses use for various reasons i.e. marketing. Users of Micro-blogging communicate through writing small topics, uploading pictures or videos etc. The most recognised micro-blogging website are http://twitter.com/ and http://facebook.com. Limitations of micro-blogging are the privacy and security of the users info, i.e. emails and other personal info of users can be accessed by 3rd parties and used by them without consultant of users.”

Micro-blogging can be used to create web presence. Businesses such as Nokia Nseries use facebook to promote new products and also provide links to their twitter and Nokia Homepage this creates web presence for them. This method is also useful to them because they can reach out to their customers via internet.

Youtube is a very good example of video service. This is where users can upload, share, and view videos. This service has become very famous after its creation in 2005 [more info]. Businesses use this service for various different reasons i.e to advertise for their products.

Now I will give 2 examples of these technologies in use by tourism businesses.

Experience Washington has one of the best tourism websites [http://www.experiencewa.com/]. Their website is easy to navigate and provides very useful information on all the cities inside Washington State. They also use images to show potential customers of activates that take place and famous attractions. They also have feedback section on top right side of the homepage. In addition to all this they send out a free travel planner, hyperlink for that is right next where it says feedback.
