Learning via electronic technology included the internet, audio, video conferencing, chat
rooms and through web casts. Technology Based Learning (TBL) also relates to such terms as
on line learning and web based learning, which is only done on computer or via anything that
has the internet and is restricted because of the use of computer.
Technology based learning will transform the way learning takes place now and in the
future because it has so many different advantages. Among TBL it has greater access to
learning because it offers delivery anytime and anywhere, The internet and WIFI are available
anywhere so you can be hooked into any classroom or training course necessary. The TBL is
for large and small groups of people, that may not be able to participate in a classroom
setting for a various number of reasons. Courses are delivered on line and can be
downloaded or updated at any time: therefore the cost of replacing teachers and materials
drop. From a trainees point of view, technology merits the learners needs and emphasizes on
the discovery of learning.
TBL has many challenges itself, and the most important being “digital divide” which is
caused by computer literacy and lack of learner population. You also have “social loafing”
which is where students who do less work might become over whelmed because of the
material and the absence of an instructor-learner interaction. The TBL has high rates of
attrition among learners. The developers of the course also face problems because there are
students with disabilities and because of technological incompatibilities. Some employers
don’t like the TBL approach because it lacks any face to face instruction and unless the
certificate comes with accredited backing from another school then they likely won’t be
hired.
