INORGANIC COMMODITY CHEMICALS: Their Socio-Economic and Environmental Impacts

My understanding about inorganic commodity chemicals is these are the chemicals that are manufactured from our natural resources. Processed and made into products that are very useful in the industry today. Some of the commodity chemicals are naturally present in our surroundings, in the atmosphere, in sea water and inside our body. These chemicals are produced in very large quantities because of its high demand unlike those specialty chemicals that are produced in low volume because its demand its low depending only on where it is being used and it is very specific to what function when produced.

In my opinion, the impact of these commodity chemicals in the environment is not harmful if we only know how to use it in the right ways. There is no harm to the environment if we produce inorganic commodity chemicals because supposedly the benefits are more than the detriments. Some of it can be used as fertilizers, in food and beverage industry, soap and detergent industry, for water treatment and it can be used especially in protecting the environment. Hydrogen peroxide protects the environment by detoxifying waste matter that contains formaldehyde, phenol and cyanide. Just like hydrogen peroxide, soda ash or chemically named as sodium carbonate also protects the environment. At moist condition, it absorbs moisture and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. There are some inorganic commodity chemicals that are used as raw materials for explosives but it doesn’t mean that it damages the environment.
