For the past decades, Philippines is facing a big problem. A problem that different leaders tried to conquer but no one succeed. A problem that 3rd world countries are also experiencing. It is like a disease that is attached to our past and has been passed to our generation. A disease that is inevitable but is also changeable; this disease is embedded to our society; A society that is suffering from poverty.

Philippines are one of those countries that is experiencing overpopulation. A massive increase of population that is caused by the illiteracy in parent-hood, the lack of knowledge in family-planning is the major caused of overpopulation. An increase of waste is a result of overpopulation. But because of illiteracy, improper disposing of these materials will cause another problem which is pollution; Pollution that is slowly killing our mother nature. Another effect of poverty is hunger. It is a need that must be satisfied; Satisfaction that is not achieved by everyone. People from depressed society tends to do unlawful things. Crime is their only escape to hunger; crime to suffice their need to overcome hunger. Sad but true , about 56% increase in criminal rate during first quarter of last year. 6.24 million Filipinos are considered out of school youth according to NSO. Other effects are vividly seen by us and does not require statistics because we can see it in our daily experiences.

A domino effect of poverty and illiteracy that is rapidly influencing our dying society. Leaders are not enough to change what we use to be. It is inevitable but can be changed through every persons will. The change must start in us. We cannot alter the past but we can shape our future.
