Abstract
Team B has conducted interviews from different school districts in order to compare the results of the ELL Programs being utilized. This paper will discuss the various similarities and differences among the school districts interviewed.
ELL Interview 3
School Districts measure success in terms of whether the ELL Program is achieving the
particular goals that the district has established for the program and its students. If the district
has no established goals geared towards the effectiveness or structure of the ELL program, then
the school district or school system is only setting itself up for failure with out those set of goals
or guidelines being addressed. However, if the school has a set of guidelines implemented for
the ELL Program then and only then will the school achieve a level of proficiency in English and
will be able to participate meaningful in the districts overall program.
ESL is a term used by the federal government to help identify student’s who have
insufficient English to succeed in an English only classroom. Team B’s Michelle Wallace
interviewed Melissa Summers who is currently an instructional support staff member at
Deervalley Elementary School. Mrs. Summers noted that there are many avenues used to
identify non English Learners. First and foremost they are given a Fluent English Proficiency
test. Those students that fall below proficiency are identified as needing ESL Services. Also
