Effects of Technology

In this day and age of technology the world moves at a fast pace. We can see the effects of technology by comparing past to present. As people in modern day society we count on things to move at a fast pace to help us keep up with the environment and the world around us. With out technology and the modern conveniences of technology we would not be able to keep up with our world; In this country we rely on our computers for fast payment methods, answers from the ease of Internet research, and as a communication device.

Though many countries are progressive in their adoption of technology, particularly in Western Europe and Asia, the United States still sets the pace for technological innovation, which can be attributed in part to the same risk-taking, entrepreneurial spirit on which the nation was built (2007, PC Magazine). Technology has greatly impacted the way we, as Americans, pay for purchases. When I was a child I remember my parents paying for their purchases with paper checks and watching the cashier review a paper book to see if my parents credit was ok. Waiting in line was a lengthy process and wasn’t very efficient compared to today. Now when people pay for their purchases they can use credit cards that will query the bank systems electronically through computers to see if the funds are available and quickly report back to the store so the customer can be sent on their way. Even faster yet are the new speed pass payment types that are set up at gas stations for fuel payments and at some retail locations.

Getting answers to our questions is as easy as typing a question and hitting a search button. Compared to reviewing references at the library and searching physical encyclopedias for answers, as was done in the past, the Internet has made our lives easier. The technology of computers and...
