Abstract

This paper discusses a five day Kaizen event being used to create a new HRM system within a company that will very quickly be expanding. With a limited time frame for change, one month, it was extremely important to get the new system figured out and implemented. Bringing all of the managers within the company together with HR allowed for this process to happen.

Creating a System

As the president and CEO of a small US based business, I am looking to expand my company. I provide three different services to my clients in five central states. At the start of the year I will be taking on clients from an additional ten states along the east, west and south western coasts. The expansion will triple the size of my business and that requires increasing company head count.

Creating a new HRM system will help the organization by ensuring they have the right person who is experienced and qualified in position, it will help position the company to look for internal and external candidates to fill current or new positions, it will help each department head fully understand what each person on their team is doing and if they have the potential to be more, and it will help when it comes to looking externally for candidates.

“Both the unemployment rate (7.9 percent) and the number of unemployed persons (12.3 million) were essentially unchanged in October 2012.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2012). With the unemployment rate so high, there are an astronomical amount of candidates applying for positions. Being able to weed through them before scheduling interviews is extremely important and time saving.

I will start the process off by holding a company meeting to let everyone know about the upcoming expansion and what that means for the company as well as the employees.
