Egyptian Fine Arts Museum

As I was unable to physically go to a museum I was able to do an interactive virtual tour of the Egyptian Fine Arts Museum of Boston. The Museum was opened in 1876 and originally housed 5,600 works of art. In 1909 The Museums of Fine Arts moved to its current location at 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston Massachusetts and now is the home to more than 450,000 works of art that includes arts of Asia, Oceania and Africa, European and American art, contemporary art, musical instruments, textile, fashion arts, a comprehensive Egyptian collection amongst others. I attended the tour on Saturday, Aug 4th.

The museum’s Egypt collection of Egyptian art and artifacts is one of the most important in the world. It houses a spectacular collection of sculptures, paintings and architectural works. Exhibitions by contemporary artists, both Egyptian and non-Egyptian are held there.

The museum holds collections from the time of the old Kingdom, the age of the pyramids (2599 – 2150 BC), which were collected from excavations done the by the museum. It also holds collections of the Middle Kingdom which includes the painted coffin of the period and non-royal sculptures.

Upon entering the interactive museum, I was full of excitement, because of the fact that I haven’t been able to visit any museum within the vicinity since I was a child and finally seeing some of the artworks and topics discussed within our class. Since I was attending the museum virtually I didn’t have a tour guide to show me around the museum, I was all alone about to witness the wonders of the Egyptian arts without anyone to provide me history of what I was viewing. The artwork/artifacts/statues were amazing, just looking at them made me feel a since of happiness. Having the opportunity to look and study them both in class and at the museum made all of my efforts worth it. I wish I could have been in there in person but I was satisfied with the...
