Motivation, satisfaction, and performance are key elements in achieving team and organizational goals. Motivation is defined as the processes that account for an individual’s intensity, direction, and persistence of effort toward attaining a goal (Robbins & Judge, 2007). The effort an individual puts forth in achieving goals is a measureable component of intensity. The intensity must also be matched by the quality of the effort. This positive effort must coincide with the direction and commitment of the organization and its goals. Lastly, persistence is a measure of how long an employee can maintain the desired positive effort and intensity towards reaching the organizational direction. Our challenge this week is for Team B to accept a large project and create a plan for positive influence to achieve success.

Our first effort in creating a plan was to individually complete the DISC Platinum Rule Behavioral Style Assessment. The purpose of this assessment was to provide the tools to observe and understand our team member’s personal identity traits specific to one another. The four main basic behavioral styles in this assessment were revealed as dominance, interactive, steadiness, and cautious. We openly discussed our results in order to analyze our similarities and differences, explore possible leadership and communicative styles, and to focus and develop our goals.

The six members representing our team identified three of the four behavioral styles. It was important to explore the strengths and weaknesses or opportunities for improvement of all team members. We also discussed the irregularities in the results. Some team members were of a specific behavioral style; however, they do not demonstrate all tendencies of this style. It was important to be honest in our results and interpretations in order to create a successful action plan.
