INTRODUCTION

1.1. Introduction

Employee engagement is defined as level of commitment and association which an employee shows towards an organization and its core values. An engaged employee is fully aware of changing trends in business, and works efficiently with his colleagues to enhance job performance for benefit of the organization placed side by side with his own interests. This concept is getting widespread popularity, importance and use in workplaces consequently impacting organizations multi-dimensionally.

Human Resource (HR) professionals are of the belief that employee engagement is a new challenge which has a lot to do about feelings of the employee regarding work experience and ultimate treatment he or she gets in the organizations. This is concomitant with emotions and directly linked with drive bottom-line achievement in a business enterprise. It is also observed that there are people who do not render their optimum superlative services regardless of their high engagement with their supervisors. On the other hand, many employees like to commit to other organizations because, by doing so, they get a powerful satisfaction in recognition of their remarkable contribution in accordance with their qualification and experience. The concept of employee engagement is quite new which has been promoted by HR firms over the years. Academic researchers have now joined the debate in eliminating the inconsistent interpretations of the meaning of employee engagement (Macey and Schneider 2008).

Today’s modern organizations are faced with several challenges in terms of managing workforce, not least of which is engaged, satisfied and retained employees. Employee engagement has become a burning or prominent issue in the prevalent global economic activities.
