What is ISIS?

The Information Systems Improvement Strategy (ISIS) is a reform programme for the police service that will use IT as an enabler for business change.

ISIS is founded upon the consensus that police ICT can be delivered in a more consistent and affordable manner. The existing arrangements for police ICT are complex and costly with each force historically owning and operating its own ICT. The recent NPIA ICT cost survey, showed that forces in England and Wales spent approximately £1.2 billion on ICT in 2009/10. This represents around 10% of the total annual spend on policing.

ISIS has been identified by the Policing Value for Money High Level Working Group (HLWG), chaired by Nick Herbert MP, as the means to better align police processes and reduce the costs of IT support. The future approach to ISIS and its supporting principles were endorsed by the HLWG in March.

ISIS will provide the delivery of police ICT.  ISIS will establish common infrastructure and common services in order to release savings, improve effectiveness and enhance the links to the wider criminal justice system. Over time this model will replace the existing local provision of police ICT and provide services at a national level.
